Meet our presenters

Mark Morris – Director

With more than 37 years’ experience, Mark’s passion for public practice runs deep. He has held senior appointments in chartered accounting, commercial industry, and academia, including Senior Tax Counsel at CPA Australia.

A seasoned educator with a pragmatic approach, Mark prides himself on his ability to break down complex concepts into real-world applications.

He is currently a member of the NTLG FBT Working Group and the Tax Practitioners Digital Implementation Group.

Mark is a registered tax agent, a CPA Australia public practitioner, and has been admitted to practice as a solicitor and barrister in Victoria.

Roger Timms

Roger is a specialist tax consultant with more than 40 years in public practice. His clients range from multinational corporations and Big4 firms to family businesses and high-net-worth individuals.

With extensive experience in training and facilitation, his presentations focus on the practical implications of case law, new legislation and tax rulings.

Roger was Head of Tax & Superannuation at Tax & Super Australia; National Manager, Webb Martin Tax Training Business at Kaplan Education; and General Editor of Lexis Nexis publications: The Lawyers Tax Manual and Inside Tax.

He is a chartered accountant and registered tax agent with qualifications in commercial law.

Leigh Conlan

Leigh is Co-Founder and Principal Consultant at Specialist Accounting Services, consulting on research and development (R&D) and indirect taxes. He has more than 35 years’ experience in public and private practice, advising clients on R&D, transaction and employment taxes.

His broad commercial and legal experience includes working for the ATO and former Trade Practices Commission (now the ACCC).

He is a representative on peak bodies and consultation committees with the ATO, AusIndustry, Treasury and State Government, and represents CPA Australia on the R&D Tax Incentive Reference Group.

Leigh is a registered tax agent and a Tax Institute chartered adviser with qualifications in accounting and economics.

Gordon Thring

Gordon has 39 years of experience as a corporate tax advisor to Australian corporate tax groups as a former member of the tax consulting divisions of two Big 4 accounting divisions, including 26 years as a Tax Partner.

This includes extensive tax experience advising on corporate issues such as M&A issues (including Demergers, Scrip to Scrip rollover and Tax Consolidation), International tax issues such as CFCs and corporate tax residency as well as other tax issues affecting corporate groups (including the Taxation of Financial Arrangement provisions).

Gordon has regularly presented upon corporate tax issues at industry forums. Through this experience, he can provide extensive guidance on tax issues relevant to corporate groups.

Gordon is a registered tax agent and Chartered Accountant.
